A new release wall for your living room.
At Midnight Movie Train, we believe that just because you’re too pooped to leave the house doesn’t mean that your movie selection should be curated by corporate middle managers. Welcome to Sofa Cinemaphile! A biweekly (hopefully, if I have my shit together) overview of new and interesting films available to watch at home.
All below are available to rent or stream on at least one major streaming service, and came out in the last couple weeks. Enjoy!

Dir: Gus Van Sant, Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara and Jack Black
An unwavering story of addiction and loneliness, Gus Van Sant’s latest is also generous and funny and full of grace. The film’s protagonist, John Callahan, is a real-life legendary Portland character… a guy everyone who was around in the 80’s or 90’s had a story about: a provocative cartoonist who was also an alcoholic and a parapalegic upon whose self-deprecating autobiography the film was based. This film left me in a puddle of tears, aching in my heart AND filled with hope, eager to head into the world grateful for the privilege to live in it another day.
